About Dr. John Martin, Jr.

John Martin, Jr., MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Commonwealth Orthopaedic Associates in Reading, Pennsylvania. He has more than 25 years of experience as a physician for professional sports teams, and he’s developed an expertise in minimally invasive knee and shoulder surgery, Oxford partial knee replacement, and joint replacement.

Dr. Martin graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in Hampden Sydney, Virginia. After graduating, he attended Columbia University’s School of General Studies in New York City for his graduate premedical program, and he earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.

After medical school, Dr. Martin completed an internship in general surgery at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia. He then completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s Rothman Institute in Philadelphia and a second residency in pediatric orthopaedics at the Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware. He finished his medical training with a fellowship in sports medicine at Temple University’s Center for Sports Medicine and Science.

Dr. Martin is certified by the American Board of orthopaedic Surgery and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is affiliated with the Surgical Institute of Reading and the Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center.

Outside of his work at Commonwealth Orthopaedic Associates, Dr. Martin is a team physician for the Reading Fightin Phils minor league baseball team and various local high school teams. He’s also an orthopaedic consultant for Penn State Berks in Reading, Pennsylvania.
